OUR STORY
Her Story was shot in May 2011 over 5 days with a professional cast and
crew who generously donated their time. The total budget would have
been over $150,000 but we managed to get it in the can for $12,000, all
of which was raised through crowd funding. Post production was dependent
on a grant proposal that unfortunately did not go through. We are now
returning to crowd funding to help complete the film and get it into festivals.
The film is designed to show that slavery is not just an overseas issue, it is here in our own backyards. It is through this film that we hope to raise awareness of human trafficking in North America and inspire people to take action to end this travesty.
A quote from the writer/director:
As a film maker, I’ve always felt that if I’m going to tell a story, it should be important. When I came across a Salvation Army poster a few years ago it impacted me like no other media I’ve seen. It read, “There are more slaves today than in any other time in history”. I started researching the subject and was shocked to find that hundreds of thousands of young women and children are trafficked into North America every year, the majority of them are being used for the sex trade.
Human trafficking is an underground criminal activity whereby government officials and police claim is difficult to track. One of the ways to fight human trafficking is by raising public awareness and decreasing the demand.
I am a firm believer in using my abilities and resources to do something good. With the support of our communities we can impact people the way that Salvation Army has impacted me.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
This short film is a stepping stone to a feature length project that will be able to reach an even greater audience. In June 2011, after the first edit of the short, Aaron approached author Pamala Kennedy Chestnut regarding her book “More Than Rice”, a novel on the same subject as “Her Story”. Pamala, who is one of the leading advocates against human trafficking in America, was so moved by “Her Story”, she instantly granted Aaron the rights to make her novel a feature film. Screening “Her Story” in festivals around the world will help bring “More Than Rice” to the big screen.
