Director Aaron Au

Aaron’s passion for directing comes from his love for storytelling but he didn’t start out in the industry making films. Not knowing how to pursue a directoring career, Aaron got into acting and stunts and wisely used his time on set to learn the film making process. He began practicing with action shorts and then went on to work as a pre-visual videographer and editor. In 2008, he was ready to take on a proper short film and wrote THE TEA MASTER which he was awarded a grant from Bravo!FACT. Aaron’s first film was met with great praise and screened at 20 festivals around the World taking home many awards.

After becoming a producing partner at Titlecard Picutres in 2010, Aaron continued to focus on his writing and directing taking on the challenge of a silent film. He wrote HER STORY, an 11 page script that was an Official Selection to the 2010 Director’s Circle Screenplay Competition. HER STORY is now complete and will begin its festival run in January 2012.

As another challenge, Aaron entered the 2011 Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon where he had 12 days to write, shoot, and edit a short film. With the competition time in mind, he wrote a 6 page script that involved four actors sitting around a table. He made sure he structured it with three acts, something Aaron focuses on even in short films. He completed his film THE ANTI-VERSARY in 5 days and won the competition with near perfect scores from all three judges.

Aaron has now developed a distinctive visual and storytelling style that is recognizable in all his films. He continues to push the limits of film making and is constantly reaching new heights with each project he takes on. Aaron is currently writing a feature adaptation of the novel MORE THAN RICE by author Pamala Kennedy Chestnut who was so impressed with HER STORY, she insisted on having Aaron bring her book to the big screen.
